Dropped out: what to write on your CV?

David, a job seeker, asks: I dropped out of university after two years doing an Astro Physics course. I hated it! So I moved to another country and now I graduated from a course in architecture. As a result of my shame, my CV is missing two years where I was doing the Astro Physics course. Do I have to mention it? Will it look bad to leave it blank?

In answer:
If you are ever faced with a CV Writing dilemma, then always think about it from the employers view point.

You took up a course you didn’t enjoy, recognised that and moved away from it. After choosing a new course, you successfully graduated. What’s the bad impression that it creates? None! You recognised a bad situation, and solved it by going onto success.

That’s a great story, and better than a two year “gap” in your employment history, for which every employer at present will reject you.

Simple – Good Luck!
